it happened yesterday..
smlm (friday) terasa malas sgt2 nk ke skool..it's my research day (kalau 1st year i called it my ronggeng day..but now no more!! sob..sob..)
siap hubby terpaksa bwk Adam to masjid for friday prayer..yela kalau i tunggu kt rumah sampai die balik ape pun x boleh buat..lgpun dh few times adam ikut pegi masjid...
then i went to skool and start doing my research..tp kt our PG room tu ade pulak suasana yg tegang..one of my friend, Hilary cried since morning..adde la menda yg terjadi..she kept yelling and shouting at all people in the room including me..being one of the closest friend to her, i understood the situation..malas nk amik port..i need to do my literature search and data key in..so buat dunno je laa..then she got more miserable and i told her right to her face,'I think u should go home and get some rest'..she looked hypoglycaemic okay (she has Type 1 diabetes..)
so die tau that i was upset..then she went on again..but to other ppl..then my other classmate(Amal) asked her to check her sugar level..damn!! it was 2.4 ok!! we got a lil bit panic..luckily i stocked my 3 in 1 Milo and Amal boiled water..but there was no water in the kettle..so Amal left her in pantry, i went to our PG room to cont my work..
then amal shouted and called me..i ran..and discovered she fainted..she looked pale!!!OMG...
Amal asked me to look after her while she went to the main clinic to get a help..and i remembered that i put my choc bar in the fridge..without any delay i took out the choc and let her eat it..she was lying down on the floor nearly unconscious!! one of my consultant came and accompanied me while i'm continuing feeding her the choc bar...the she gained her conscioussness again..
my other consultant and Amal reached there with medical emergency bag..but Hilary refused to get tested..she was soo upset!!!
then we sent somebody to get her a sandwich (we need a solid carb to get her recovered!!)
after about half an hour and 3 glucose tests, the blood glucose increased from 2.4 to 6.6..fuuhhh...
thank God that it happened when we were around!!
that was not my first time encountered with Hilary being unconscious...in my previous entry i wrote about her as well...i cukup risau!! on thursday she left skool at 11pm..i left at 9pm..i felt guilty..i should hv not left her alone..she must be tired, stressed and have some other problem including financial problem..i'm really hoping that she can be strong until september...let her finish this hard course!!!
and on the way home...luckily Wan my junior heading back to the same direction, so i asked him a favour to accompany Hilary...we were all worried..She scared us!!!!
I hope she will get well soon....
ok some advice for medical emergency in diabetic patient (Hypoglycaemic Coma)
1. if the pt fainted, put her in the safe environment
2. do ABC
check Airway
Breathing
Circulation
(call her name, get someone to help you, get help..if needed call 999)
in this case we put her on the floor, leg raised. safe surrounding..airy..not so hot, not so cool..
3.check the blood glucose (in this case we all dh tau her blood glucose sbb br cek)
get any sugary drinks..solid carb eg: sandwiches or banana pun ok..
if kt klinik ade glukagon, or hypogel..boleh sapu kt bibir die..absorption is quite rapid..
4. wait until full recovery..meanwhile keep talking to her..eventho they responded to you but u can detect that they are still slurred and talked nonsense..so wait longer..
5.check the blood glucose again..if it's still low (normal range for diabetic is 6- 8 mmol) give any glucose drinks/ juice..Milo works best...
6. if dh fully recovered, make sure she has someone with her back home..if needed refer to nearby hospital..(in our case die ade all the glucometer, medication and friend at home)
7. must not panic..
8. finish of with Disability (D) and Exposure (E)..
means that for unconscious pt, these should be checked earlier..if needed take off clothes..
but for hypoglycaemic.. tak payah laa..sbb bukan nk buat CPR (basic life support) pun..
Good Luck!!!
sepanjang i keje..i dah faced a few medical emergencies including fit, hypoglycaemic coma and faint..siap one of my patient kene fit lepas bg local anaesthetic..mase tu kt K.Selangor..so harap2nye i'm not so panic and dapat handle the situation wisely..yelaa kalau kite panic..our assisstant lagila panic kan...InsyaAllah..
p/s: berguna jugak la pegi medical emergency training tu...at least tak panic sgt when this thing happened..btw in our dept slalu gak patient collapsed..bukan children, but kakak diorang laa, bapak diorang laa...attending a dental clinic is such a big stress too!!! so my advice, pls calm down, have ur breakfast and relax..jgn panic/takut sgt nk visit dentist..we're there to help u..hehe..

Ya Allah!! Kesiannye dia! She must be in really bad condition. Sigh! I tell you I pun risau ni .. one of these days I pun pengsan macam tu jugak. The stress level is really getting to me now! I cannot take it sometimes. Sigh! Sabar aje lah Naza, May Allah help all of us get through this arduous hurdle.
